20-Year OCC Veteran Jeff Brown to Lead Basel II Group at Promontory

Washington, D.C. (January 25, 2007) – Promontory Financial Group announced today that Jeffrey A. Brown, former Senior Deputy Comptroller for International and Economic Affairs at the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), has joined the firm as Managing Director leading the Economic Capital and Basel II group.

At Promontory, Mr. Brown will specialize in Basel II capital standards, model validation standards, and risk management. Most recently at the OCC, he was responsible for providing economic expertise, fostering relationships with foreign supervisors, and preparing the agency to examine quantitative aspects of regulatory capital determination under forthcoming Basel II standards. As a member of the OCC’s Executive Committee, he contributed to the strategic direction and administrative policy of the agency.

Mr. Brown joins a team at Promontory with unparalleled experience in economic capital, Basel II, and supervisory risk-examination matters. This team includes John Mingo, former Senior Advisor at the Federal Reserve Board, Susan Krause Bell, former OCC Senior Deputy Comptroller, Jim Kamihachi, former OCC Senior Deputy Comptroller, Alice Cho, former assistant to the Federal Reserve Vice Chairman, and Alex Carmichael, former Director of Commercial Banking at RiskMetrics Group, Inc.

Earlier, Mr. Brown served as Director of the OCC’s Risk Analysis Division, where he was responsible for examining banks’ use of quantitative risk models and developing policies governing the appropriate use of models by banks. He was a member of the inter-agency Basel II implementation working group and the OCC Basel II Steering Committee. He holds a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University.
